Bringing Traditional Washi into Contemporary Life
harukami grew from an Echizen washi workshop established in1975, carrying forward the region’s centuries-old tradition of Japanesepapermaking while exploring new possibilities for washi in contemporary life.
Wet sheets of washi are shaped directly by hand overthree-dimensional molds without the use of chemical adhesives. A distinctiveblend of kozo fiber and wood pulp, finished with a natural konjac coating, gives the paper both strength and a soft tactile quality. From thepebble-inspired forms of cobble to the cloud-like shapes of moln, harukami transforms traditionally flat sheets of paper into sculptural objectsdesigned to be touched, used, and kept.
